AMOS ADAMU OF NIGERIA

FIFA Ethics Committee which began an investigation into corruption allegations involving Nigeria‘s Dr.Amos Adamu and Tahiti‘s Reynald Temarii in Zurich, Switzerland on Monday is to give its verdict on Thursday, the world football body has said.

The two FIFA executive committee members were suspended after being accused of offering to sell their votes for the hosting of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups to undercover reporters from the Sunday Times newspaper posing as lobbyists for an American consortium.

However, they have both consistently maintained their innocence and expressed confidence that they will be absolved.

FIFA President Sepp Blatter has said that if either of the two men were suspended, they would not be replaced.

The committee, headed by former Swiss footballer Claudio Sulser, is expected to reach its decision on Wednesday although FIFA said in a statement that the verdict would be publicly announced in a news conference on Thursday.

But FIFA‘s executive committee is then due to meet on Friday to discuss the outcome.

According to the body, the investigation committee will scrutinise evidence from the Sunday Times sting on the pair, in which they were filmed asking for cash in return for their votes, and decide if they should be banned from the December 2 secret ballot on the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

Only the 24 executive committee members have the right to vote when the two World Cup hosts are chosen.
