FG declares May 31 public holiday for democracy

ABUJA— The Federal Government has declared  next week Monday, May 31 as Public Holiday to commemorate this year’s Democracy Day which falls on Saturday.
The Minister of Interior, Capt. Emmanuel Ihenacho who made the announcement said this year’s Democracy Day celebration will be low-keyed owing to the death of former president, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
To this effect, special prayers will be offered at the National Mosque and the National Christian Centre for the repose of late President Yar’Adua’s soul and divine guidance for President Goodluck Jonathan as he and his team steer the ship of the nation.
According to the statement, an interdenominational Christian service will hold at the National Christian Centre on Sunday, 30 May 2010 while a Juma’at service will hold at the National Mosque on Friday, 28 May, 2010.
