NIGERIA Football Federation (NFF) president, Alhaji Sani Lulu Abdullahi, has reiterated the intention of Nigeria to host and win the U-17 World Cup holding in October this year.
Lulu told Tribunesports that the country was willing to host the best championship ever and at the same time strive to successfully defend the trophy the Golden Eaglets won two years ago in South Korea.
"The LOC is determined to organise the best U-17 World Cup ever in the history of the championship. Nigeria will be hosting the rest of the world and at the same time win the championship," Lulu, who doubles as the chairman of the Local Organising Committee of the Nigeria 2009 U-17 World Cup said.
He was full of praises for FIFA for showing enough trust in Nigeria, by extending the deadline for inspection severally, promising that the country would not disappoint in the championship.
The former FCT Director of Sports, said the commitment shown by President Umaru Yar' Adua towards the cadet World
Cup was unprecedented, promising that the gesture would be reciprocated by hosting a hitch-free championship and also winning it.
Meanwhile, chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Engineer Sani Ndanusa, says the NSC will supervise the preparations of the Eaglets as they get ready for the cadet World Cup.
Nigeria has been grouped in Group A with Argentina, Germany and Honduras in what has been tagged the Group of Death and Ndanusa told KickOffNigeria.com that the Eaglets would be adequately supervised ahead of the tournament.
"The venues have been confirmed, the hosting right has been given and the draw has been done. Unfortunately or fortunately for us, we have been drawn in the group of death but I know we are going to live there and will be alive.
"Initially we were concerned with two things, getting the hosting rights and participation proper. Since we have been given the hosting right, I know that our participation now has taken the front seat of our business and we will be seriously involved in the team's preparations.
"I can assure you we will do anything within our capacity and also give all the encouragement that we need to present a good team for Nigeria," Ndanusa assured.
